NEWTON, MA – August 26, 2026 – PRESSADVANTAGE –
All Pro Newton Deck Builders has expanded its residential deck design, construction and repair services into Needham, Massachusetts, extending the company’s coverage area across the Charles River into Norfolk County. The expanded service area is in effect for the current building season and covers homeowners throughout the town.
Work covered by the expansion includes new deck construction, replacement of aging structures, repairs to framing and decking surfaces, railing and stair installation, and the addition of pergolas or screened enclosures to existing platforms. Projects are handled from initial site assessment and design through permitting, construction and final municipal inspection.
Needham lies directly across the Charles River from Newton, where the contractor has been based, and the two municipalities share comparable housing patterns dominated by single-family homes on wooded or sloped lots. The town recorded a population of about 32,000 in the 2020 federal census, and a large share of its housing stock was built before 1980. Structures of that age frequently include decks that have reached the end of a typical service life.
Residential deck work in Massachusetts is governed by the state building code, and Needham requires a building permit for new deck construction as well as for most structural alterations to existing decks. Code provisions address footing depth below the frost line, ledger attachment to house framing, guard height where a walking surface sits more than 30 inches above grade, and stair rise and run dimensions. Contractors performing such work must hold state registration as a home improvement contractor, and structural work additionally requires a construction supervisor license.
“The expansion follows repeated inquiries from Needham homeowners who wanted a crew already familiar with local permitting and inspection schedules,” said John Greene, owner of All Pro Newton Deck Builders. “Working in an adjacent community means the same crews, the same suppliers and the same lead times apply on both sides of the river.”
Deck construction in eastern Massachusetts is concentrated between April and November, because excavation and concrete footing work becomes difficult once ground temperatures drop. Scheduling for Needham projects is being coordinated alongside existing Newton work, with build timelines ranging from several days for a small ground-level platform to several weeks for multi-level structures that incorporate seating, lighting or roof coverage.
Industry organizations that track deck safety have noted that a significant share of existing residential decks predate current standards for ledger attachment and guard construction, and that failures most often originate where a deck connects to the house rather than in the decking itself. Evaluations in the expanded service area therefore include inspection of ledger fasteners, flashing and post-to-beam connections on structures that are being repaired rather than replaced.
Material selection across the region has shifted over the past decade, with composite and PVC boards accounting for a growing share of residential surfaces alongside pressure-treated pine, cedar and mahogany. Framing beneath the walking surface remains dimensional lumber in nearly all residential applications, and span requirements, maintenance expectations and budget determine which surface material suits a given site.
Each project in the expanded area begins with an on-site evaluation of grade, drainage, existing framing conditions and access for equipment and materials. Findings from that evaluation inform the drawings submitted for permit review, which the contractor prepares and files on behalf of the property owner. Inspections are scheduled at the footing and framing stages before decking and railings are installed.
The move reflects broader activity in the residential remodeling market, where outdoor living projects have held steady demand since 2020 as homeowners invested in usable exterior space. For Needham residents, the change adds a contractor whose crews are based within a few miles of the town line, which affects response times for estimates, repairs and warranty work.
